Getting from Changi Airport to the city — FAQ

What is the cheapest way from Changi Airport to the city?
The MRT, at about S$2 tapping in and out, in roughly 45–60 minutes with one cross-platform change at Tanah Merah. Public bus Service 36 is a similar price but takes closer to an hour.
What is the fastest way into Singapore from the airport?
By road — a taxi, Grab or private transfer reaches most central hotels in about 20–30 minutes off-peak, against 45–60 minutes on the MRT.
How do I get from Changi to the city late at night?
The last city-bound MRT leaves Changi Airport at 23:18, and bus Service 36 — running as 36A by then — makes its final departure at 23:58, or 00:04 on Saturdays. Past midnight only the road is left: licensed taxis queue 24/7, Grab and the other ride-hailing apps work around the clock, and a pre-booked private transfer meets you at arrivals. Expect +50% on a taxi meter between 00:00 and 05:59, on top of the S$6–8 airport surcharge.
What is the best option with heavy luggage or a family?
A taxi, Grab or a private transfer takes you door to door with no stairs or transfers. A private transfer also fixes the price up front and has the driver meet you inside the arrivals hall.
Do I need cash to get into Singapore from Changi?
No. You can tap a contactless bank card or a SimplyGo/EZ-Link card for the MRT and buses, pay taxis by card, and Grab rides and private transfers are charged in the app or pre-paid.
