Getting from Changi Airport to Singapore: the quick version

Changi Airport sits about 20 km east of the city centre, and there are four sensible ways to make the trip into Singapore. Here is how they compare before you dive into the detailed way-by-way and route guides.

MRT (East–West Line)

The cheapest way in. Trains leave from Changi Airport station beneath Terminals 2 and 3; a quick cross-platform change at Tanah Merah puts you on the mainline to the city in roughly 45–60 minutes for about S$2. The first train leaves at 05:31 (05:59 on Sundays and public holidays); the last one that still connects towards the city goes at 23:18.

Taxi & Grab

The fastest door-to-door option — about 20–30 minutes to most city hotels for a metered S$25–45, before an S$6–8 airport surcharge on the way out, 50% between 00:00 and 05:59, and 25% at peak times. Licensed taxi queues and Grab pick-up points are signposted at every terminal's arrivals level.

Public bus (Service 36)

Service 36 is the only direct public bus into the city, running via Marine Parade, Suntec and Orchard for around S$2. Budget close to an hour. Departures after about 23:00 run as route 36A, and the very last one leaves at 23:58 — it is not an all-night service.

Private transfer

Prefer to be met at arrivals with a name sign and a price fixed in advance? A pre-booked private car skips the queues and takes you and your luggage straight to the door — handy for late-night landings, families and groups heading to Sentosa or the suburbs.

Not sure which one fits? Open the way-by-way guides for step-by-step directions, or pick your neighbourhood on the route pages for fares and times tailored to your exact destination.

A price agreed before you fly, with none of Changi’s three taxi surcharges — and the driver waits in the arrival hall, not at the end of a rank.
